the postcards of İzmir and Selçuk (Ephesos / Ephese)

These are the photos that I took in October 2007 in Izmir and Selçuk-Efes. I focused on the details in the forms and play of lights. First of all, they were done in the purpose of introducing my home town which was one of the metropole in the antiquity but it lost its importance after being conquered by Persians, than by Turkishs...well, that's a history, and it should be turned the page. Nowadays the city of Izmir and the region of Izmir make the investment for tourism and fairs, but also for industry in the selected areas by municipality and the government. I will be happy if you comment about the cartpostals because I still progress in my photography interest :)

over my wings

"Kanatlarımın Üstünde" which means "Over my Wings" is a children's novel that I wrote and illustrated. The story is about a little sparrow which was born in a garden of the big city. He meets Olivos, a Greek house martin who comes to past the summer in the city. They become friends and when it is autumn, he wants to join to Olivos and see other cities, countries, the sea and other animals that he doesn't see in his town. During the story he lives many adventures and makes friends. He arrives to Egypte with Olivos and marries with an other sparrow...
As it is a child book, I used my naive watercolor technique to express the child-sparrow's universe. The story contains the messages about the choices in life and the friendship. By the time, little sparrow understands that it is not only a migration to Egypt, but also a spiritual migration though the nature...

the birds

No, forget about the birds of Hitchcock, these birds belong to Aristophanes ; the Bernard Shaw of Greeks in the antiquity! Briefly, the play is about a satiric comedy on the Greek society in Athens in antic age. It seems that there is a system but it is so degenerated that, there is always confusion and problems. As Aristophanes criticises Athenian people, I have thought that the caricature would be appropriate for the topic. Identifying the birds "better than humans", I made a composition where the birds-humans are together in a no tranquil way. They speak, they push one another...in a parlement but also in a theater which are both public constructions for bringing people together. When I add on typography, it gives again reference on "error in the system" like the errors that appear on computer.
